ENTHUSIASM OF THE MEDICAL AUDIENCE FOR THE EUROREGION Internationally renowned speakers from Austria, Croatia, Greece, Slovenia and Italy but also and especially the medical audience, expressed their enthusiasm for the congress “Sports medicine in the Euroregion”, organised by the Italian Sports Medicine Federation of Trieste represented by dr. Auro Gombacci. In the morning session, issues such as the functional evaluation of the disabled sportsman through wellness and physical activity in the schools as a project for fighting obesity have been discussed. In the afternoon session, the discourse focussed on doping and other unfair and incorrect behaviours for the health of the athlete, but also and especially of the population as a whole. In this regard prof. Stjepan Heimer, delegate of the Croatian Sports Medicine Society, has expressed a very positive comment on the congress: the exchange of the ideas arising from such congresses is definitely necessary for the development of the projects about sports medicine; the latter has lately found rich soil in the Euroregion, especially regarding epidemiology of the physical activity. Professor Heimer believes that sports medicine in the Euroregion goes hand in hand with the first objective of the World Health Organisation, that is with the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health; in his opinion sports may and must give a crucial contribute to this aim. Prof. Petra Zupet, delegate of the Slovenian sports medicine association, agrees with her Croatian colleague Heimer; from her point of view a good beginning as far as the commitment for ensuring everyone the highest possible level of health by means of sports might be to grant the prevention cures not only to professional sportsmen and women but also to amateurish ones and the whole population in general. Professor Nikolas Tzouroudis, Sports Medicine delegate from Greece, in his intervention sais that Greece has got a lot to learn from the cooperationwith the Euroregion because this relationship is essential for the growth of his country. At the end of the symposium there will be a final evaluation of the sportsmen and women of the “Frecce Tricolori”, developed by prof. Pellis of the Regional Centre for Sports medicine in Trieste.
