35th European Cadet and Junior Karate Championships
Countdown starts for the European Karate Championships for Cadets and JuniorsTrieste, 15 January 2008 – In exactly one month’s time the PalaTrieste sports arena will host the 35th edition of the European Karate Championships for cadets and juniors, an event lasting three days, from 15 to 17 February. A total of 50 nations will be taking part in the EKF (European Karate Federation) Championships, organised this year by the FIJLKAM (Italian Judo Wrestling Karate and Martial Arts Federation). About 1,800 participants will descend on Trieste, including karate practitioners, coaches, officials, healthcare staff and representatives of the media. The importance of the event may be seen by the participation of the President of the Italian Republic, who will be awarding a personal Medal, and by the support given to the event by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, the Province and Municipality of Trieste and the newspapers “Gazzetta dello Sport” and “il Piccolo”. Rai television, through Raisportsatellite, has planned a two hour live broadcast from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday 17 February, during which highlights of the first two days of action will also be broadcast. On Tuesday 29 January there will be an interesting introduction to the Trieste Championships, with a technical-scientific conference on the subject of “Education through the art of combat”, which will take place in the Sala OLIMPIA of the Nereo Rocco Stadium.
