KARATE – Starting day for European Karate Championships

During the first day of competitions (ending sunday afternoon) the eleven titles of the junior categories will be assigned, and Italy, one of the 45 nations participating in the competition, presents a team full of talents and traditions. In occasion of the same competition disputed last year in Smirne, the young Italians have been awarded with six gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals. Among the young Italians competing tomorrow, worthy of note is the outgoing champion Alfredo Tocco (kata) and last but absolutely not least, Luigi Busà (kumite) outgoing absolute world champion. The continental competition, that will see the participation of almost 700 athletes, has been officially presented today in Trieste, in the new Head Quarters of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, by the federal president Matteo Pellicone and by the executive president of the Local Organizing Committee Emilio Felluga and with the participation of the EKF vicepresident Giuseppe Pellicone, of the Technical Director of the National Team Pierluigi Aschieri, Piero Tononi for the mayor of Trieste, Stelio Borri for the Italian National Olympic Committee, Gianni Pecol Cominotto and Alessandro Carmi for Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
